Matthew Cutter passed away on August 7, 2023, at Tufts Medical Center. We were expecting, and even told friends, that we had a few months to plan with Matthew for his wishes and will. He loved so many people, we know he would want everyone to be able to show their love for all he has done over the years. Our family is devastated by the loss of our son and brother.
Matthew loved visiting the lighthouse when he needed time to think or just sit and relax. It was “his spot.” He requested that we spread his ashes there, allowing him to always be at peace. We honored Matthew’s wishes on Friday, August 11. We now realize not enough details or planning allowed for all who wanted to celebrate Matthew’s life to be able to attend, as we had hoped.
The Cutter family expressed their desire to honor Matthew’s wish and celebrate his life with all who loved him. We apologize for the miscommunication that occurred over the past few months. If anyone is interested in reaching out to his family, please email his mother, Julia Cutter, at jkcutter8@gmail.com. We would love to hear any stories you are willing to share about Matthew.
Mathew grew up in North Berwick, Maine. After graduating from Noble High School, he attended the University of New Hampshire Business School. After college, he moved to Martha’s Vineyard to begin his business career. Matthew truly enjoyed spending his summers working on the Vineyard, as this allowed him to spend time with friends and family visiting the Island. He was the bar manager before moving into the position of beverage manager at Atlantic Fish and Chop House, before ending his career with Martha’s Vineyard Steamship Authority in Oak Bluffs as a member of Teamsters Local 59 out of New Bedford.
Matthew was someone who loved being immersed in a crowd of people, laughing, joking around, and having a good time. Matthew always had a love for the ocean. Over the years Matthew traveled to St. John in the winter season, where he obtained his captain’s license, which allowed him to captain catamaran tours. He was most happy out on the ocean, exploring the Virgin Islands and new places. Matthew thought the world of his family. He was very loving and caring, never hesitated to help when needed. Matthew treated everyone he loved as family, and he will be truly missed.
He is survived by his grandmother, Olief Price of Hawkinsville, Ga.; his parents, David Cutter of North Berwick, and Julia Cutter of Hawkinsville; his brothers and sisters, Aaron Glover of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Alan Cutter of Hudson, Nathan Cutter of South Berwick, Maine, Joshua Cutter of North Berwick, Amy Cutter of Boynton Beach, Fla.. Sarah Cutter of Eastman, Ga., Katie Cutter of Naples, Maine, and Eric Cutter of Cochran, Ga. He leaves behind 18 nieces and nephews, and several aunts and uncles.
