A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, Sept. 12, at noon on Oak Bluffs town beach between the jetty and lifeguard tower, in front of the Capricorn House B and B. In the event of rain, the celebration will be held the following day.
Deidre passed on April 5, 2021, after a seven-year strong, courageous battle with cancer. She died in hospice care, surrounded by her husband, four children, and granddaughter at her bedside.
Deidre, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, innkeeper, and restaurant entrepreneur, was a lifelong Islander who summered at her grandmother’s cottage in the Campgrounds every year of her childhood before living on the Island year-round after college. Deidre and her husband Henry owned and operated several restaurants in Oak Bluffs, Vineyard Haven, and Aquinnah. Additionally, they have owned and operated the Capricorn House in Oak Bluffs for nearly 30 years.
Deidre was the daughter of William and Carolyn O’Connell of Duxbury. She is survived by her husband, Henry Diodati Jr.; her children, Joseph, his beloved Anna and their daughter Morgan, Nicolas, Lucas, and Lylah; and her brother, Matthew O’Connell. One of Deidre’s biggest joys was seeing the birth of her granddaughter Morgan last November. Deidre is also survived by her birth mother, Tineke Bolding, and her brothers, Stefan Zeekant and Oscar Zeekant, as well as a large extended family, all of whom live in the Netherlands.
